January 1 1873 Wednesday

            Holliday  Reese went to Leesville to see about his clothes bought cap  went with mules & sled brought 15 bus cole Robert got of J.Price some other things Ma ordered  snowey & Icey

 

January 2 1873 Thursday

            Reese on hand  butchered 4 shoats  Mike & J.Overholts helped Sarah  helped Kitty Simkins  stoped a while & cle some gutts Theadore & Aleck princ and Lisle come up to drefs turkeys stayed all night  Mike cut up hoggs  come a big thaw & Mike had to carry Sarah & babe acrofs bottom on his back ought to sent sled

 

January 3 1873 Friday

            Reese on and reding up wood  Wm.Johnson come to salt pork beef & stuff sausage etc  Reese & I hauled load straw & put in stable  Ed helped Johnson in eve to stuf sausage etc  Call verry sick  Lide come up in eve after The got home to see her  come up & stay with us till sunday when J.J. come after her & children  I at home all day _Owes Johnson for helping

 

January 4 1873 Saturday

            Reese on hand  hauld load straw to Edward then wood to here for me bal of day oxen Ren Linder By 3/4 day choping got beef head & apples 3/4 bus going home at night_  A fine day  some Icey & would done to husk corn  Mike husked at home

 

January 5 1873 Sunday

            At home all day  had turkey dinner Joseph Lide & children Mike & family to help eat it  rainey & soft all left after dinner

 

January 6 1873 Monday

            Reese went to Leesville after helping feed on Fill for his coat  did not get back till near 5 oclock  I feeding & fixing over at cove sheep house to turn water off  Ed took home Fred in eve after rendering lard with his mother

 

January 7 1873 Tuesday

            Reese on hand  after feed went to haul wood with oxen  1 load to me & 3 to Ed  Mary & I went to Leesville on Exprefs & mules took Fred along to get him some clothes  she bought several other things all unpaid & charged

 

January 8 1873 Wednesday

            Reese on hand  after breakfast went by Fierbaughs with copper Kettle to help Overholt to trash  broke mach  come back soon after dinner bal of day helping feed etc

 

January 9 1873 Thursday

            Reese on hand  after churning went to help Overholts finish trashing, so windy had to quit come home before dinner extremeley cold  Ed & I tinkering round  Reese hitched up mules went to Masterville for grist of wheat flower & bran

 

January 10 1873 Friday

            Rees on hand  so cold could hardley stand out to feed  hauld up two loads of wood from down oposite Mikes of old Cherry top & Oak limbs_  Ed helped first load  Call still remains verry bad  seems like her case bad

 

January 11 1873 Saturday

            Reese on hand  put in the day feeding cleaning out stable and choping wood  went to meeting (every)? night this week

 

January 12 1873 Sunday

            At home all day  Robert & Theadore here a while  A fine day Theadore dined with Edward

 

January 13 1873 Monday

            Reese on hand  haul corn shocks to stable & barn 5 loads while I took Mules to Allbaugh shop to be shod go 4 removes toeded before & sled tonge cleves welded  unpaid for to day

 

January 14 1873 Tuesday

            Reese on hand  went to Leesville for load cole for Edward 17 bus got by Robert  unpaid  I at home all day feeding & cleaning out stables etc etc

 

January 15 1873 Wednesday

            Reese on hand  done verry little to day  went to helpp J. Overholt to finish trashing  after dinner pretended to husk corn in barn before he went but didnt do it  I went to squire Macks on R.H.case again And McClelland who did not appear fine day

 

January 16 1873 Thursday

            Reese on hand  husking corn in barn forenoon  I went to get J Wiiant & I. Channels to husk afternoon  come for their diner  Reese & I hauling shocks with oxen & sled  he acting carelefs though nothing but (a nuisance)? & we had hasty words he demand me to pay him off & he would go  Warm & fine till a shower in Eve

 

January 17 1873 Friday

            Frose up  stormey & rough  Jake Wyant here over night & till after breakfast  Ed & I geting in bal of corn out of field & barn took load hay to sheep house  brought in load fodder  took till night  Reese left after breakfast to prospect for something  I gave him cash  forty cents .40/100

 

January 18 1873 Saturday

            At home all day  feeding  put hinge on hog pen door  Edw hauld load fodder to himself after unloding sled of fodder in barn_  Sarah took sick  Mary went down after milking & stayed at night I here alone__

 

January 19 1873 Sunday

            After feeding Ed helping  I went to Leesburgh on Philly mare after 11 oclock  Reese come back about 12 oclock_  I was seeing to his account  was $37.72

 

January 20 1873 Monday

            Reese on hand  forenoon feeding grind axes & hauled 3 loads wood  afternoon Ed helping  took Mary to Mikes and back fore & afternoon I worked here

 

January 21 1873 Tuesday

            Reese on hand  for feeding then went to help Ed to haul wood 3 loads to Ed & 2 to Wm.Johnson  he cutting them I wrote letter to A. Lemmon  Mary down at Mikes all day  Ed taken her down & brought ba

 

January 22 1873 Wednesday

            Reese on hand  after breadfast went to Foutses bank for load cole 17 bus $1.00 paid  I went to M. Allbaugh shop 8 removes 4 on mules on 13 inst 4 on Ph & bay horse all $1.20 paid on $1.00 due 20/100 cts By 1 remove on Alick returning from cole bank 15 cts leaving unpaid 35 cts, Mary at Mikes Ed at home minding Fred & take care of things

 

January 23 1873 Thursday

            Reese on hand  held close all day feeding only while helping Ed to haul load straw about the middle of the day unusualley blustery & snowey all day_  at night we looked over his acpt & concluded he would have 4 months in tomarrow night

 

January 24 1873 Friday

            Reese on hand  fore noon went to Fouts coal bank for 20 bus cole for Ed unpaid bal of day feeding

 

January 25 1873 Saturday

            Reese on hand  went at 11 oclock to help Mike take load hay to Bowerston with the bay horse  did not get back till dark_  Edward went to Leesville  away till night also I choping wood & feeding

 

January 26 1873 Sunday

            At home all day only while proving mare  Joseph & Lide here for dinner  protracted Brethern Meeting going on  good sleying

 

January 27 1873 Monday

            Reese on hand  commenced his time till 1 March for $9.00 first after feeding he & Ed went after sled longs & soles after hauled load hay to sheep house  I feeding & cleaning out stables etc

 

January 28 1873 Tuesday

            Reese on hand  rather unwell  after feeding he & I went to Leesville bought him goods of J.J.S. $1.60 as pr bill rend of R.H.S. $4.50 I got oils for lamp & lantern honey molasses etc_  Ed went to Fouts for load cole 20 bus cold & good sleying

 

January 29 1873 Wednesday

            Reese on hand extremely cold  after feeding he & Ed getting wood I went to Deersville  Reese unwell (Earm to me)

 

January 30 1873 Thursday

            In Deersville over night at F.J.Simonton  after breakfast went to brother Williams took dinner there  back to Deersville  Recd of F.J.Simonton Check for $199.50 & cash .50/100 = $200.00

Started for home 3 oclock pm  Reese & Ed getting wood to day 2 loads to Ed 1 here

 

January 31 1873 Friday

            Reese on hand  unwell  done nothing worth while  Mary & I went to Leesville  I gave Theadore Check for $199.50 which I got of F.J. Simonton Yesterday  Robert in Cumberland Tuscarawas County  left pant pattern to be cut bot in Deersville of J.T.Clark for $3.00
