July 1 1875 Thursday

            Cloudey weather  I at home all forenoon  John working corn all day  Reed the Champion Machine man here last nyt with one horse come after supper_ After dinner Mary & I went to Leesville to get Double Shovel plow  new shovels on cost cash to Hunt 45 cts to Rofs for make 50 say_ $1.00 gave Mary cash 25 cts  I believe was all I laid out suppered with Joseph & come home F Smiths here to feel the wool market

 

July 2 1875 Friday

            Cloudey  Frank Smith here last night siteing about the wool market  John working corn all day_ Edward make pailing fence acrofs graden back of the house  I at home all day  went to Clendening  bought Nails to ampt of 25 cts_ John Snary here to see if I could give him a job  I hitch up Coley & Jack and hauled load pailing for garden

 

July 3 1875 Saturday

            Fine warm & dry  John finishing corn & plow potatoes in bottom onley work 1/2 day  To Cash on going home $10.00 Ten dollars Eaqualing $12.00 rode Aleck mule home  he said trough Perrville  Ed finished pailling garden  went to Bowerston after dinner Jack Mule  Fred along & Ellon Barns Cash 20  I helping John in potatoes & finish corn  rode Coley to Leesburgh after dinner trough Bowerston to see if RH had got home & give Joseph his recept from Jones Warner & Co  suped with him & home trough Hagerton

 

July 4 1875 Sunday

            A light shower last night & a good one this morning  looking some rainey all fore noon_ Ellon started home on bay horse  Ed after letting Calf get with cow fixed up & started to Leesville on Jack  Ellon home in good time  John not back till night  I at home all day  Joseph wife & Dorey drove up late with Theadores team & Punes Bugey  got supper & started home late in evening saying he intended to go to Cadiz tomarrow

 

July 5 1875 Monday

            A fine dry day John buging & hoeing potatoes over in bottom all day did not get done_ Edward getting out mowing machine horse rake & puling them to gether  greesing harnefs all the after noon I mending backband & hipstraps and other things  greasing also and at home all day  sowed a few turnip seed late in evening

 

July 6 1875 Tuesday

            John went to finish potatoes forepart of fore noon  back before dinner  turn grind stone to grind sceythes & mow a little in fence corner  after Edward who commeced to mow over in Knob field till broke off  he & John fix lathers on wagon & clean up barn floor plow patch back of garden & choring round  I went to Leesvill  got rake tooth mend by C Dunster  Aleck mule shod by S Martin  just 2 removes & tap on mowing machine bolt say 25 cents

 

July 7 1875 Wednesday

            A wet morning  John & Ed commenced to build shed back of wagon house  at it all forenoon_ After noon I raked up hay on this end of Knob field with Coley  John & Ed hauled in 2 1/2 loads and piled off of wagon with hand fork first part in

 

July 8 1875 Thursday

            A fine morning & day  John McCourt plowing corn in bottom till midle of afternoon then quit to help Edward Cock hay_ Edward mowing all fore noon_ I went down to post office and got Petition Joseph L Rue mailed me on 2nd inst  at home all day but done very little  Edward & John cocking hay in evening

 

July 9 1875 Friday

            John plowing corn till earley noon  after hauling in hay to stable 3 1/2 loads make in all 5 loads_ Edward mowed forenoon  Nance & Jack  I chored forenoon after helped to haul in hay and  got verey tired  old Mrs Linds Colard woman come but I told her Mary was engaged_ She was most all day coping off the Petition in evening old Granney Fierbaugh and Fauney Weymer come a visiting  stay till after supper  Then went to Johns to stay all night

 

July 10 1875 Saturday

            John went to plow corn  plowed till about 10 oclock then come to help Ed with hay but too late  it raining two or three hours  bal of day fixing shed while the could be out back of wagon house_ First I got Esquire Johnston to qualify me on Petition then Mary & I went to Leesville to mail it  postage 12 cents  Took 7 bus oats traded for goods with Joseph & gave him cash besides $2.00 to pay bal on groceries  dined with him_ Then went to T Ramsbury & receaved on his full ampt $56.90 then come home

 

July 11 1875 Sunday

            A fine pleasant day  Sarah Fierbaugh spent forenoon with us, I hitched up exprefs & took her & Mary over to UNB meeting at 3 oclock  I at home all day  Theadore come by going home from visiting at Englishes

 

July 12 1875 Monday

            A fine clear harvest day  up earley  Mike here at 5 oclock for John & Edward to go help him to harvest and they went  there all day  I at home all day forenoon Choring  Robert come earley to explain the account I was going to Carlton to see about which put off of going  After noon I put up some hay in cock and raked some  at it till late  John Henderson come to me just as I was about quiting_ William Crim at house when I come up wanting some money of the assignee fund  I promised to go see him next friday evening

 

July 13 1875 Tuesday

            Fine harvest weather  John & Edward went back to help Fierbaugh harvest  I hired John Henderson to cradel the bit of Hay here till 4 oclock when there come up a heavey rain and broke us off before we got done not makeing over 3/4 of day

            Mike & John & Ed brough the reaping machine late in evening th heavey rain delaying them till nearley night_ The storm blew down some fence between Fierbaugh & us and flattened all the oats in bottom

 

July 14 1875 Wednesday

            A wet morning  late getting at the wheat  did not start the reaper till 10 oclock done verry well till dinner  Henry Pittenger here for dinner onley went some 3 round after dinner till there come up a shower of rain while I was harnesing Nance to go to rake up some hay_Mike father John & Ed did not leave the wheat field but commenced cutting on soon after till night  I went out after supper & raked up the bit of hay & with help of boys got it in cock

 

July 15 1875 Thursday

            A wettish day  rained hard before day  John & Ed cleaning grist wheat & took it to mill  some 9 bushels including the one to be ground without bolting  after dinner cleaned or renavated some more mend baggs_ Then took bucks from ewes and went & built bit fence acrofs bottom beyond bridge below Fierbaugh saw mill till night

 

July 16 1875 Friday

            Damp fogey morning  Mike on hand to reap  John & Ed & old Dan on hand I rode bay horse to Scio to show him to Jim Umblebay  home again 11 oclock  Theadore just come with Joseph Rob & Alley to help bind wheat  after dinner I went out to carry water bind Rye & gather sheaves in near field when Umplebay come & I left to look & Drefs the horse legg  went out after supper & done what I could

 

July 17 1875 Saturday

            A heavey shower this morning before day  John choring around scraping up manure all forenoon  I went up to Perryvill & gave Wm Crim $100.00  back again 11 oclock_ After dinner John started out to cradle wheat but soon Mike & his father come tied up bal of Rye  cut the bit of wheat at (lozn?) side of field and shocked all the wheat cut yesterday_ I went to Leesvill took Ellon paid the tax on the property here $11.40  done some trading for Mary bot 10 cts worth Tobacco & come home  Robert McCourt here

 

July 18 1875 Sunday

            Cloudey Coolish day  I at home all day  did not eaven clean up  salt cattle & sheep  dressed the horse etc ect  Robert McCourt here since yesterday evening before supper till yet after dinner with his sorrel mare  he & Jack went to meeting & Mary also Methodist  Joseph & family and Aunt M Dean drove up while the were at meeting  I sending Clide down after Mary who some come and got them all their suppers  Joseph & family going home leaveing Aunt Mary to visit a while_ Ellon away all day visiting at Shilts_ Robert McCourt Stayed all night & till after breakfast next morning

 

July 19 1875 Monday

            A fine clear morning  John & Edward helping Mike harvest in his wheat at his house all day  I choring at house all forenoon fixing salt kegg etc etc

            Afternoon I went out & mowed (forlo?) aged Rye & wheat  cut some grafs round the stumps till supper  Clide come  I hitched mules & hauld in (lodgrd?) Rye for beding & some grafs which kept us till dark

 

July 20 1875 Tuesday

            A wet day  John & I repairing and leveling stable floor when Edward come they went to lay floor in mules stalls untill after dinner or 2 oclock when they went to help Mike to build fence around his corn till night_ John helped me to titen the strings on horse sores right after dinner_ I was down at (stehrow?) to see if Isaac Masters was grinding the grist_ J Peabodey come up to see if Ed would not haul him a few load stone

 

July 21 1875 Wednesday

            A damp fogey fore noon  Edward haul himself some wood  John McCourt & I grind axes_ Then we went out to trim some in wheat field_ After dinner hauled in 3 1/2 loads hay  two to sheep house & one to Eds stable and the half to barn after supper besides tying up what wheat was in (Swart?)  Theadore & family come first before supper and helped us

 

July 22 1875 Thursday

            A fogey morning  turned into rain  Edward commeced to mow in field ajoining stable  John diging some potatoes for me to take to Robert then he & Theadore took the scythes to go mow after Ed _ I hitched up to Carriage  I took Aunt Mary Dean home  bot oat meal & Tobaco of Joseph to ampt of 35 cts & paid the cash to him for  come home trough the rain  had late dinner_ John & Ed went to haul rails and build bit of fence below corner of his pasture lot to keep his piggs from crossing the creek into the oats in bottom and at it till night_ Theadore & family went home

 

July 23 1875 Friday

            A wettish morning_ John & I went to take away piece of fence on upper side of barn and repair the fence to the wagon house from the barn till dinner  John & I dressed the horse legg & put on new ligatur  at the hay till night  I raked with Nance  John Umblebay cauled in eve to look at him  said he was doing well_ We got all the hay that was mowed in cock_ I sent Mrs Barns by Theadore yesterday evening 50 lb flour on Ellons acpt worth $2.00

 

July 24 1875 Saturday

            A fine dry day  Ed went to mow in the field ajoining stable  John went to cut stove wood for Ed till 10 oclock  come up and went at the hay till night or ballance of the day_ I went to Leesburgh  dined with Joseph  spent some time listening to Doc Sherrods trial  I receaved of G McCartey $9.00 nine dollars on a note date Decem 7th 74 cauling for $8.56 bearing 8 pr

            Loafed a while & come home again  supper_ boys had all the hay up  John McCourt to Cash at night $2.00 one dol bill  fifty cent bill twenty five cent bill  fifteen cts bils ten cent bill= $2.00

 

July 25 1875 Sunday

            A fine day  till noon I at home  went out to look at corn & oats  after breakfast cleaned up again  dinner  family at sunday school_ David Fierbaughs daughter Sarah her for dinner_ After d all went to Brethern meeting  I at home all after noon when it began to cloud up

 

July 26 1875 Monday

            Wet morning_ After breakfast John hitched up Nance & Coley and went to haul stone over to low place on side of run  Ed mowed forenoon in far side of orchard, the boys hauld stone and broke them a while after noon till supper_ Then hauld in two loads hay  come a heavey shower on last load and had a fright with Nance at pulley rope  Theadore come while we ware at supper & Joseph boys

 

July 27 1875 Tuesday

            Damp forenoon  John mowing with grass scythe around far side of orchard most all forenoon_ Edward & Theo went up to McClains after black boys  Ed not getting back till dinner  Theadore staed till after dinner at Englishes_ Afternoon John & Ed hauled in hay till night  got in some 6 loads so says John  Then raked up hay & cocked it till he and his mother started to Leesville and Clide & Dory_ Mary away all night_ Turned in to be very wet

 

July 28 1875 Wednesday

            A wet morning  John McCourt went to grubb & chop down on (trow?) on this side of rim bottom leading to Mikes  Edward went to McLains after (boy?)  I took Johns Boots to D Wey and to get 1/2 soaled before dinner  John went back & choped till sup  Ed mowing all after noon in orchard  till done  took till night  John mowed around apple tree after sup

            Theadore & family come bringing Mary home just at supper I had been down a while with John before supper

 

July 29 1875 Thursday

            A very wet morning  cant do any thing  John turning corn in crib & choring till dinner time  Edward part of the time up here with Theadore but most of the day at home_ After dinner John went below Barn to grub up withch Hazel & big Iron Wood Tree & lodged Mapel till supper  To boot mending & going with & for look above $1.50  Dan Weyandt By Mend J McCourts Boots 95 1 pr shoes for Mary 2.50

 

July 30 1875 Friday

            Damp & Cloudey morning  dont look much like clearing off_  John cutting stove wood & choring till Ed come then went to unload wagon in Barn between 8 & 9 oclock_ Went to rake up hay in orchard Wm Adams passed by looking for young Cattle  I raked up hay in orchard & Boys put it all in cock  Theadore come and they hauled in some wheat & hay till night

 

July 31 1875 Saturday

            Dampish morning but went at wheat & hay  John & Theadore haul wheat  Ed at hay untill broke of by rain at noon  Theadore went home  Ellon going alone as far as Hagerston  John & I went over in Knob field to grub a large Iron Wood at the lower side till supper  rather an unprofitable job  Edward went to Dan Weyandts  I took Tommy home after supper & John brought & milked the cows
