June 1 1874 Monday

            Fine bracing morning  Dan Little left  Ed went to work on roads  I went to turn Roberts little colt to sheep house then to see about wool twine  come up to house harnessed up mule and left for Leesville after dinner  Took of assinee money $295.00

to Edward last installment  went to J. McCoys and repled note bearing date June 1st 72 coming due to day cauling for $four hundred & thirty $430.00  Bought 5 balls wool twine for my self and 5 for Mike

 

June 2 1874 Tuesday

            A fine clear dry morning  left home soon after breakfast for Dan Weyandt for my high monroe shoes which I receaved of his son  did not hear price_  In leesville again ten oclock_  I receaved gray car pants of Cotter  got same vest to after hemed old dress at bottom  lifted my

 

June 3 1874 Wednesday

            A fine day though some cloudey  J. Gladman moving away understood constable served summons on him to appear on Saturday 10 oclock  not much done in store  Robert & Theadore fixing up fence between store & dwelling  after T. come from station leaving butter & eggs  J. Johnson about in fore noon  worked some butter & etc John May & wife here trading forenoon

 

June 4 1874 Thursday

            I got goods out of store for Cotter Taylor of R.H. Smith $4.25 Cotter got of J. Johnson on 27th 95 cts worth of Tea & sugar included in the $4.25 for making coat & pants & altering vest  I took $20.00 of assinee money to day to pay J.J. Smith for that ampt borrowd on 1st inst to lift Eds note from J. McCoy cauling for $430.00  Theadore & I went up to Masterville after 4 oclock taking 32 lb wool to A. Wilson_  at home all night  doctered the horse after supper with concentrated Lye  go by R.H. Weaver thare making ties

 

June 5 1874 Friday

            I hired H. Weaver this morning for 3 months for the sum of $55.00 Eaqualing $18.33 1/3 pr month  agrees to take $35 in the store at prime cost  to wait on ballance after he puts in the time till I can convinece make the money_  Went to harrowing corn with Aleck  Theadore Edward & I got bunch hay out of sheep ha and started for Leesville  Ed & Mand went to New Market to get her tooth pulled Theadore giving Mother .50 for Mandy Which I am to refund to him

 

June 6 1874 Saturday

            A fine morning  dull in Leesburgh  expected to meet J. Gladman at Esquire Dempsters to Contest his apt but did non attend  obtained judgement again Gladman for full ampt_  I left for Mastersville after 5 oclock brining up bay horse & baye Mare_  Theadore & wife come up to Englishes late & there all night  J. Plowman and old Beamer in the store talking a while in after noon_  Hen Weaver finished harrowing corn again noon then helped Ed to hang gate at barn

 

June 7 1874 Sunday

            After breakfast I went to see Corbin Tompson but missed him come back home  cleaned up  Theadore and wife come then_  After dinner I went to Mrs Houstins funeral  heard John Lemasters preach the sermon  Bargained with Corbin Thompson to shear the sheep for $8.00 dollars to be paid in Leesburgh in goods if he says the job is too hard to allow more not over 8.50 no how

            Had a fine rain last night

 

June 8 1874 Monday

            A damp fogy morning  Mike cauled up and went to doctor horse before breakfast  Henry Weaver come & got mules Express wagon and cultivator to work his corn  away nearly all day  Ed tinkering around fixing for sheep shearing  I started to Leesville bought gingham spool and tobacco for H. Weaver  one pr moroco slippers for Mary  said worth 1.10

7 1/2 yds gingham       weaver 16 & spoo       1.20

June 9 1874 Tuesday

            A fine morning  all hands at their post  C. Thompson & A. Fouts come shearing after breakfast  2 bucks first  H. Weaver to working corn (bys) at patch back of garden  I left for Leesville  Robert gone to New Philad  I left Campbell with him last eve  Theadore and J. Johnson here all day  nothing done in store  went up to Mastersville after dark  got out of store 1 1/3 yds bard wankeen and 1 paper peas  cash for postage stamp & statonary (pd for)? Mr.Blackburn

 

June 10 1874 Wednesday

            After shears got to work Henry & I dressed horse, then he started to corn field  I left for Leesville  done nothing all day here yet  Robert trade some Warner & Able who paid cash  At night I got goods for H. Weaver

They claiming to have sheared 159 head of sheep and being harder than bargained for

 

June 11 1874 Thursday

            A warm day  dull in store  H. Chaney and Z. Coil had a law suit about book,  I went home in eve  a fine show after supper_  I took cash out of store drawer to finish paying sheep shears $2.50  But Thompson claimed it was not enough said he shon 159 sheep  some very hard  worked close 2 1/2 days Each Eaqual $10.00 at 2 dols pr day or would take 6 cts a head $9.54

has receaved up here this ampt  8.60

but wont pay that if I can help  .94

it as he agreed to shear the whole flock for nine dollar  I blevg him  I thought there was 152 sheep in all offering to onley count the eaws number  H. Weaver cultivate corn over creek with Jack mule and was fighting him when I went to bring him supper

 

June 12 1874 Friday

            I left home after breakfast on Coley mare ariving here before Mr Bellows left for Cadiz  He coming here yesterday afternoon  Ed Mary Sarah Mandey & Fred all come to Leesburgh soon after me leaving Hen working corn with Aleck second time  Mr Bellows left for Cadiz before 12 oclock  Robert went out to try buy wool after dinner on Black mare  got quite cool in evening  Bunker & Drakey cauled Tresket in Leesville all night

 

June 13 1874 Saturday

            A cool morning & day  Robert had a long talk with St Clair of Wheeling & Tresket in morning before they left  Robert started out to buy wool 1/2 after 10 oclock  didnt get back before I left after 6 oclock for home  H. Weaver cultivating corn all day  Edward took Coon mare to J. Crambs  Jack & She took him  terms $5.00 to insure or or no pay  dull day in store  H. Weaver did not come in till late Ed out nearley all night

 

June 14 1874 Sunday

            A fine cool day  went out after breakfast  seen little filley salted sheep  took a general look trough stock  remained at home all day  Ed & Mandey went to Hagerston  back after earley dinner  Mary & I dined alone  Mike & Sarah here for supper  Was informed old Sam Adams was burried at Hanover grave yard to day  died suddenly yesterday

 

June 15 1874 Monday

            A fine morning  geting warmer  first after breakfast dressed horse  Henry Weaver helping  he and Ed then went to work corn or something else_  I start to Leesburgh  two rones  Robert & Joseph gone out to buy wool before I got in  a dull day  very little done  Robert not back till after dark  H. Weaver working corn all day

 

June 16 1874 Tuesday

            Looking some like rain  first shaved then went & brought sewing Machine from Pittcarns  Robert started out again to buy wool or rather look or enquire about it_  nothing done in store to day at all_  Robert not back till near night bringing black mare home sick_ Vilagers preparing for sunday school Festival  Mrs Price borrowed some little dishes for purpose_  I left for Mastersville after 6 oclock  had a fine shower in Hagerstown_  H. Weaver 1/2 day finished corn & rode Coon Mare to New Market  Edward cutting saplins below bridge in upper bottom afternoon

 

June 17 1874 Wednesday

            Fine growing morning  had good rain  Hen Weaver & Ed went to clear off on brow on hillside as go to Mikes  I went up to leave means for Mike to pay Tax tomarrow then come back to Leesburgh_ Hagerstown leaving mules with Henderson_  Dull day here

            Theadore took something to ship at Bowerston_  went to Mastersville next morning brought Hen Wev here to work at fence all day for him & Robert_  Theadore took black mare along with him

 

June 18 1874 Thursday

            Looking clear and warm  Theadore & Hen Weaver not here till after 9 oclock  commenced work at Robt fence first  at it till 2 oclock  bal of evening at lott fence  work hard particulary Theadore.  Robert started to Mastervill at dark to on way to Cadiz  I here alone all night

 

June 19 1874 Friday

            Hen Weaver at fence by himself (Theadore in store all day onley while helping J. Johnson work butter & eggs)  Hen Weaver done fence befor dinner  bought Hat knife & makeing of suit clothes out & out  in all come to 16.75

 

June 20 1874 Saturday

            Recepted to Mr Bellows for $500.00 to buy wool  he left at 11 oclock for Cadiz saying if we wanted more money he would leave at McFaddens  Hen Weaver onley made 1/2 day to day  he and Ed working potatoes forenoon

 

June 21 1874 Sunday

            A fine warm & dry day  Centenial UN Brethern meeting in grove was in procession all or most of week previous

 

June 22 1874 Monday

            Warm & dry  Hen Weaver got Jack Express & double shovel to go trough his corn  I left for Leesburgh  black mare = Edward bought wool (Ellick & Coon) 152 fleeces 37 fleec 204 = 33 fleecs 178 = 34 fleece 203 = 31 fleece 178 17 fleece 121 five 38 tare Eaqual 190 off leaves 694 in wool in all  Edward said Mother kept out ^ for home use_  I borrowed paper sack flower of Robert for Mrs Barns  Hen Weaver to use of Jack mule & double shovel plow to go trough his corn 75 cts

 

June 23 1874 Tuesday

            Extreemly warm and dry but little done in store  I let Theadore have funds to go to Frank Wilson to buy butter & Eggs  W. Jones out also  The money belonged to asinee  R. Railey in town all night lecturing  left at or about midle of day_  I done very little but coppy of some names of notes on invoice  Theadore went after load chaff_  No encourgement in wool market_  Expects a rain tom night_  Hen Weaver & Ed cleaning out well at house all day or till late in the evening

 

June 24 1874 Wednesday

            Still warm & dry  no rain  another depression in wool market_ James Barr of Uhrichvill here a while this forenoon and after noon also  dul day in the store  Mike & Dan Fierbaugh brought their wool to Joseph & Spence late in eve  said they had 152 fleeces weighed in full without shrinkage 572 lbs disatisfied  then I went up to home before all unloaded_  H. Weaver & Ed had been working corn all day  Hen left just as I got home for New Market  got cash out of drawer to buy Tob for Mary of Joseph 5

 

June 25 1874 Thursday

            Sultry warm & dry_  Left for Leesburgh after looking round & cleaning up on black mare  Edward fixing to go mow_  soon after I arived here Abe Smith & wife come  stayed with Theadore I suppose to feel wool mar  Receaved letter from Bellows and wrote him in answer by Fred Senft who is go to Cadiz to morrow_  Theadore went up to Mastersville before dark to stay all night & get gag of hay for horses  Hen Weaver at New Market all day

 

June 26 1874 Friday

            Warm & dry though looking like rain  Hunt took in a good deal of wool this forenoon  a nice shower rain  Theadore & Mary come about 11 oclcok  wool been all stoped from buying or paying over 45 which creates quite an excitement, nothing much doing in store_ Edward mowing a little  Hen Weaver plowing corn Coon mare, and I think finished it for 3rd time  Theadore brought Mary home & I home qite a shower of rain fell on us in Hagerston

 

June 27 1874 Saturday

            At home  Salt all the stock  spent all of After noon collecting and onley got 2.75 of Isaiah English  rode Coon Mare  Hen Weaver & Ed fixing bottom of sheep house to put hay in  gathering Ties and haul in 2 gaggs of hay off of Knob field and hardley worth gathering

 

June 28 1874 Sunday

            Warm & dry  after shaving & washing went over to Mikes  at home bal of day  Ed & Mandy went to Hagerstown & Leesburgh Coon Mare

 

June 29 1874 Monday

            Very warm & dry  Hen Weaver & Ed working in hay  first began over on Knob Field  bal of day at school house field  mowing & rakeing_  I went to Leesburgh in Eds bugey & rone mare takeing boys 4 chicks as present  I paid out of Bellows money to Robert $65.00 to pay (Toupr?) on a dirty lot of wool which I was sorry of  bal of day I moved my wool over to Joseph in evening & come up home quite unwell  Theadore mad 2 loads in his wagon bed of the wool from Bobs upstairs to Josephs  G. English lifted his note as I come troug town home late in evening

 

June 30 1874 Tuesday

            Still warm & dry  I left for Leesburgh with roan mare & Eds bugey earley before Mrs Adams sale commenced  feeling quite unwell  Lidey got & stued some buttermilk which I thought done me some good. Come up home again in the evening_  Mrs Adam sale went off well things brought their value_  Mike left the Reaper on his way home from Eben Lockrages  Hen Weaver & Ed was hauling in Hay out of field over by schoolhouse  I got of Robert Fish Oil 20 cts 2 lb Rice & 1/4 lb ginger & 1/2 lb salts
