March 1 1873 Saturday

            Reese on hand  hauld load hay to sheep house with Edward  3 loads wood to Phillip Smilley  he chopped them & helped R. haul  I went to Leesville to get George horse fore shoes made easey  Robert started to L.M.Branson  J.J. on spree when Hall Called

 

March 2 1873 Sunday

            Snowey day  I went to W.Amos forenoon on Phillip  afternoon to Leesville on Frank

 

March 3 1873 Monday

            Reese on hand  done nothing but feed & chop a little wood verry cold & snowey  Ed went for load cole for himself  Mules & wagon  G.English here for dinner_  Reese talked of going to Denason did not go  I received a letter from Robert about wool & Joseph drunk

 

March 4 1873 Tuesday

            Inaugaration of Grant  Reese on hand  hired for $155.00 for one year  went to Leesville for load cole  mules & sled  15 bus paid Robert for Reese  come home & left_  gave him cash $2.00

 

March 5 1873 Wednesday

            Still cold & snow

            Reese left yesterday eve just before 6 oclock  cold I at home all day feeding and tending stock & getting wood onley while I took crofs cut saw over to Fierbaugh Ed hauld 2 loads wood here & one to himself & one to Phillip

 

March 6 1873 Thursday

            After dinner when I got chores done I went over to Elias Smiths to see about hand  Elias Huff then to Leesville & suped with Robert  Theadore & Lesle come up & I missed them  feeding all done before I got back  bargained with Bill Corey to cut 10 cords wood at rate of 70 cts pr cord  he boarding himself five cords up at cove & five below Eds lot on creek

 

March 7 1873 Friday

            After getting feeding & cleaning done up  I went up to J.Scott & Elin Lockerage about girl  Ed & Theadore went to Easterdays sale Theadore gone home before I got back  & Reese back again

 

March 8 1873 Saturday

            Reese set in again to stay at the rate of $150.00 pr year to make full time from this date 26 working days to the month  I finding him work in all bad weather when he wants to work washing and mending his working shirts & pants in

 

March 9 1873 Sunday

            Very windey in afternoon  At home all day  rather unwell with cold in head & running at nose  a fine beautiful day  as also yesterday & day before  hearing the Crows on Thursday last  hopeing winter is broke

 

March 10 1873 Monday

            Reese on hand  after feeding he & Ed went to prop up fence after went with Mike to cut rail timber bal of day went out about eleven oclock after grind axes after dinner  I went up to Edward Albaughs in Exprefs for girl but missed on account of being sick

 

March 11 1873 Tuesday

            fine weather for season  Reese on hand  after feeding went out to chop wood over by cove  I at home all day only while I went after grist  tinkering around  Ed Changing girls

 

March 12 1873 Wednesday

            Reese on hand  (Crossed out: Puld wooll off sheep) then hauled Ed load hay & load wood here with oxen  I went to Deersville with Ogden Commission Merchant N.Y. mules & Carr $200.00 Receaved of F.J.Simonton cash on his recept (cauling for $200.00) two hundred dollars recepted for  come home same evening_  got three dollars from Ogden for taking him to Deersville

 

March 13 1873 Thursday

            Clawseys sale  Reese on hand  after I started for Ed, Arbaughs with mules & Esprefs he puld wooll off of sheep  laying up blown down fence & choping bal of day.  I brought Molley Stewart home again 2 oclock  got our dinner & (samtered)? (wmd)? bal of day seeing to things etc

 

March 14 1873 Friday

            Reese on hand dwent with mules & wagon to haul corn for Johnson  I gave Bill Corey order to R.H.Smith for $3.00  Reese back again 11 oclock worth $1.75 I went to Leesville paid J.J.Smith for pump $7.50 R.H. 10 cents for soap sup with Joseph  Reese haul lever and help Ed at his shed

 

March 15 1873 Saturday

            Reese on hand  he & I getting posts & haul up sheaf oats after he took Philley to shop  paid Squire Johnson cash for J.Striker $2.40 for cole  wettish tonight

 

March 16 1873 Sunday

            At home forenoon when all went to meeting at 12 oclock I started for bro Williams  there before 3 oc

 

March 17 1873 Monday

            Reese on hand  went to Leesville for load cole for Ed  bought Knife & something else of Joseph 90 cts  I left bro Williams & went to Joe Lukins to give him his note and Sheppard recept?  I receaved a note of F.J.Simonton on L.M. Barrick to R.Simonton date August 31rst 2 six monts from date $15.

 

March 18 1873 Tuesday

            Reese on hand  a wet day  done little but feed  after dinner (made)? a boot jack & went to help Ed fix a gate  I took a walk on the R.R. with W & got wett  seeing about haul fence

 

March 19 1873 Wednesday

            Reese on hand  after breakfast went to chop over by sheep house  After dinner I went over to Tipton to see if he would m rails

 

March 20 1873 Thursday

            Reese on hand  led up granary and shelling corn  To 10 cts for segars_  I went to Leesburgh to see Branson sack wool (swey)? & wet come home in eve

 

March 21 1873 Friday

            Reese on hand  haul wood oxen Channels  commenced to mak rails To 10 lb flouer  I went to Leesville  brought Branson to Bowerston

I gave Robert $7.00 to pay Cory for choping 10 cords wood  come back home in eve

 

March 22 1873 Saturday

            Reese on hand  haul manure with oxen_  I went to Magavarn to get hand saw sharped on Fill mare  after supper up to S.Trawls to see Wright about make rails

 

March 23 1873 Sunday

            At home all day feeding  Robert come up here for dinner  a fine day

 

March 24 1873 Monday

            Reese on hand  mooving old fence with buck & besy  Ed went to Bowerston forenoon  Channels choping rail timber and cord wood  fine day  cloudey

 

March 25 1873 Tuesday

            Reese on hand  commenced to plow for & after noon  mules  Ed went after Doc. Stone, Channels split some rails & sawed in after noon  Ed helping  I leading M to open first furrows & make (grist)?

 

March 26 1873 Wednesday

            Stormey day  Reese on hand  first took 34 lb Flower to Channels  he choping some cord wood till dinner then went home  Reese done little but help feed stock  so severe

 

March 27 1873 Thursday

            Snowey & cold  Reese on hand  after feeding went to haul sawloggs to Fierbaugh  Mike helping from 10 oclock till 1/2 after 3 oclock  hauld 3 twelve foot fence bords loggs & 1 post logg

 

March 28 1873 Friday

            Reese on hand  after breakfast went out to plow & Reese broke point trough passion & head strong presumption_  then went to help Mike haul ties from saw Mill to our field hauled 4 loads he and Ed mules & oxen two each_  I went to Leesville on Frank to look for plow points & clover seed

 

March 29 1873 Saturday

            Reese on hand  feeding carying shel corn etc till dinner 1/2 day then went to Perryville with me to show horses_  The sow had 6 piggs this morning from L.Robeys Bore in afternoon or night on sunday morning smothered three of them Was supposed to be served on or about 7th December  run 15 weeks  Reese to cash to by Lantern .75

 

March 30 1873 Sunday

            At home all day  a fine day  most of forenoon feeding & carrying  Mike and Sarah here to dinner

 

March 31 1873 Monday

            Reese on hand  first after breakfast sort sheep & chores plowing after noon left hand plow
