November 1 1874 Sunday

            Cold & Raw  at home all day  did not clean up  Mandey rode Nance home  Joseph & family come up just before dinner stayed till 4  Ed hitched up & went to bring his wife to Meeting_ I went over the creek & salted the stock brought up cows  cleaned hog pin etc  John Barns back at dinner time  went away till night  after dark D Shilts come to court Mandy  so went the Sunday

 

November 2 1874 Monday

            Fine morning  Ed & John went to unload fodder  gather up some they spilt etc  I went to town & left 37 cts with Ed Clendening for Fult Eadey  bought 1 g Carbon Oil for 20 cts paid out cash on all 57 cts got little grist corn meal  bal of forenoon fixing to start to Leesville & left after earley dinner  I lent Theadore cash to buy butter & eggs in Hagerstown all in $5.00 bills $100.00  Had a talk with Joseph about selling the stock of goods to Trip telling what the Hunt girls had told Mrs Price  after supper I left for J Trips whare I stayed all night on way to Carlton

 

November 3 1874 Tuesday

            Cold & frosty  Left J Trips after breakfast for Carlton  Express at Moodey dinner & horse feed 60 cents back to Leesburgh again dark  Edward had been here & got 20 bus cole of Rutter on my acpt $140_ J Barns was splitting wood  I believe all day  I remained in Leesburgh all night  Robert at lodge  Theadore in store with me old John Robey in

 

November 4 1874 Wednesday

            Frosty morning_ After reporting to L Barrick about some cases I fixed up and went home trough Bowerston before dinner  after went to see Mike to help butcher white calf.  Then to drefs the horse after 4 oclock butchered  took till after dark  Ed & wife Mandy & John to UN Brothern prayer meeting

 

November 5 1874 Thursday

            First after breakfast weighed beefs three quarters  weighed 45 lb each and one 40 eaqualing 175  cut it up  started J Barns to Leesburgh with it and hide to D Sams to tan on shares  got his recpt for, weighing 31 lb come on to town distributed the beef am boys  got 15 lb cole 1.20  got the grind and sent horse home_ Bargained the store to James Tripp to commence invosing on Monday 9th inst grant privilage to sell till Saturday eve as we hane done before_ Robert started for Pittsburgh by going to Deason

 

November 6 1874 Friday

            Beautiful weather  up earley watching about the store sold considerable goods  Left for home just before 12 got diner at home  hitched to Eds bugey come back  Robert home in good time from Pittsburgh  Theadore tending store all day_ Ed painting his house  J. Barns gone to Tunnel for cole gone all day

 

November 7 1874 Saturday

            Fine morning  after breakfast got some Loam to take home to doctor horse  Mary & Sarah here to day to get some goods  considerable sold  I stayed till near 5 oclock leaving Joe Trip dealing for spoons with Robert  took home 4 yds floor Oil cloth 1 qt lantern oil & Ball Candle wick, I dont know what Mary bot but Sarah paid for what she got

 

November 8 1874 Sunday

            A beautiful day  Ed went to Leesburgh to take Theadores cow home  got 1 spring mantle clock  back home before dinner  then went to McClaws & not back till next morning 9 oclock  I polticing horses legg  I Heaston here for dinner  I busey all day salt sheep in eve

 

November 9 1874 Monday

            A nice Morning after a fine rain  Ed not back till after 9 oclock  left him & John Barns grinding axe  I come to Leesburgh & commen Invoising stock to James Trip the help Henry Custer  Luther Barrick Robert & Theadore & myself  took stock this after noon to ampt of $911.23  A Calhoons Drugstore burnd down about 11 oclock PM night_ H Custer slept with me_ John Barns clean out spring & haul manure etc etc

 

November 10 1874 Tuesday

            Fine weather  H Custer & L Barrick on hand invoisceing  went on fine  Custer left for home after 4 oclock  took stock to ampt of some over $800.00  John Barns haul wood to Ed & here with oxen  Barrick slept with me this night & was busey footing till near bed time

 

November 11 1874 Wednesday

            Fine  Custer back about 10 oclock  Barrick on hand till after 4 oclock when he left for home finished invoiceing  coppied off drew note and closed up all parties left  Custer going home with Trip_  John Barns trashing bit of Rye etc  stock good  invoiced near $2135.55 gave note for two thirds of that ampt is $ 1423.70  (ink blot: drn?) by Henry Custer

 

November 12 1874 Thursday

            Trip back this morning preparing to start East  I left for home before 11 oclock feeling some unwell  John Barns haul load cole  after noon  cut wood & help doctor horse_ Theo here late in eve gathering butter & Eggs  went home  I gave Mary Cash $1.00 to make change for Theadore

 

November 13 1874 Friday

            Cold frosty morning  John Barns up earley & went to haul cole for his mother to pay me one dollar for use of teem after hauled load here for which I gave him one dollar to pay for Mandy & I went to Leesburgh  I gave her cash $2.00 got her goods to ampt to ampt 50 cts_ I brought home 1 square French Marino Cost 50 cts  got 2 bottles gargling oil of Trip 30 cts not paid for  I paid the oil next day to Robert when I paid for J Barns shirt_ I also brought home 4 1/4 yds gray waterproof such as I got in Summer for coat double width. cost .90 or 1.00 pr yd

 

November 14 1874 Saturday

            A cold morning after a hard freese  John Barns & I left for Leesvill got Jim Moreland to shoe the mules all round 3 prs new shoes and 2 removes behind on Alick toad 30 cts in all $2.30 which I am to settle some way on Monday next  I had Robert to make the credit on J. Morelands note on tuesday after to amount of $2.30

 

November 15 1874 Sunday

            moderated and pleasant  at home all day  expected some company but none come  had roast goose for dinner and onley had daughter Sarah Fierbaugh & Eds wife he being sick  J Barns here all day

 

November 16 1874 Monday

            A fine mild day  J Barns away earley for load cole  I gave him cash $1.00 to pay for at Tunnel bank  I preparing to doctor horse forenoon  John back again dinner  after he went with Ed to split poast at mouth of run till feed time  I had to get Mandey to help me put the poulltice on the horse all done well

 

November 17 1874 Tuesday

            Wet morning  Ed & John cleaning up Rye forenoon  I had to reset the poultice on horse after din  Ed & John went to split posts till broke off by rain then made benches_ I hitched to express and went to Leesville brought home 1 new axe 3 (quil lets?) 4 lb nails 2 yds cord roy 2 yds striped casimier 1 pr jeans 6  1/2 yds double width bard flannel & 2 1/2 yds Ticking  I had a wet drive of it old Walker went along

 

November 18 1874 Wednesday

            Fine morning  after breakfast Ed John & my self went over to plow low place in bottom  put in the day at it & leveled it nice

 

November 19 1874 Thursday

            Still fine  John Barns went over to grub forenoon in willows and I believe Edward was helping in afternoon a while_ I went to Leesville learnd J Trip & Spence had returned on last Tuesday eve and had entered into partnership  Don Night come & setted the J Hamilton account account gave a $2.00 bill by Robert giving him a two dollar bill I furnishing the ballance of change_ I brought home remnant of cambrick

 

November 20 1874 Friday

            Wettish drisley day  John Barns time up and went home claiming I owed him yet $3.65 must see about how much he got in store on saturday 31rst October was $6.85  in all $9.38 taken from 13.00 leaves $3.62 (Durtine?)_ After breakfast I went over to Mikes after dinner Ed & I fixed under barn for cattle & horse

 

November 21 1874 Saturday

            Edward went to haul to Luthern grave yard the old man Easterday grave stones for J Peabodey  I fixing to poultice the horse all forenoon after noon cutting wood & tinkering around  H Shultz boys caul to get $1.50 cts he claim as ballance on seed wheat got on forepart Septem 73 which I must see about_ at night I receaved a letter from JM. Estep announcing the recpt of Railroad Com & Edward judgement again M Overholts

 

November 22 1874 Sunday

            Cloudy & dull at home all day salt sheep & calves  Ed hitched to carrage & went to New Market  Mandy rode Coley home  John Barns here for dinner  after Sarah Fierbaugh come & spent the evening staying all night  it turning out wet night  rained a good deal

 

November 23 1874 Monday

            Wettish mudy & cloudey  I cleaned up to go to Leesburgh but disapointed on account of J Snary coming to get muley Buck keeping me too late  I agreed to let Snary have the Buck for 2 days work lent rope to lead him with which he agreed to leave at I Masters Mill on Wednesday following  turned up cold

 

November 24 1874 Tuesday

            After breakfast and feeding done I went to Leesburgh trough Bowerston to Robert about collecting  done nothing on account of Butchering next day  got 2 removes on Coley before by Chaf & Martins cost 25 cts cash  paid cash to Walker yesterday for mend collar 10 cts cash for Tobacco 10 = 45 cts then come home trough Bowerston  cold hard freesing last night and all day_ Went to get I Heaston to help Butcher after supper

 

November 25 1874 Wednesday

            Cold & frosty  up earley to fix for butchering  the help Mikehal black Frank McAfee or Alred & I Heaston butcherd 4 hoggs & brindle heffer dressed 358  took till night  D Crisley here to buy hoggs bot Mikes 560 to be delivered in New Market & medialily after offered by Akey Eavans 6 cts but too late  hogs cut up & salted  Ed & Frank salting after supper  I went to town

 

November 26 1874 Thursday

            Fine mild morning  up earley  Luthers cow had calf in stall last night but done well from all appearance  Frank Meed here all night  left after breakfast  I gave him cash 25 cts after earley dinner I took two quarters of the Beef to Robert leaving the hide with D Sams weighing 47 lb took his recpt for  brought home 1 gal Carbon Oil  3 bottles Lard lamp oil 1 bale wool  home 1  1/2

 

 

November 27 1874 Friday

            A butiful day, at home, first after breakfast ground Phillip Smilleys axe (old Mr Beadle up her beging money for the M E Church) Watering horses  preparing drefs horses legg bal of afternoon cleaning out & reding up stable_ Ed away all day helping Mike & his father butcher 4 hoggs

 

November 28 1874 Saturday

            A damp chilly forenoon went to Hiram Shilts to settle bal on seed wheat paid him 88 cts to close the matter up in full, come home after dinner went up to Old Nines to see if he had any (shotes?) to sell  a wet after noon come home by Gabe Longs  snowed at night

 

November 29 1874 Sunday

            A Snowey morning at home all day  Edward hitched to his jump and went to McClains after his wife  a dull day meeting at U N Brethern Church none of us went  David Shilts her with Mandy sat up in parlor  Josey had to sleep by her self

 

November 30 1874 Monday

            A Snowey day  I took Josey Barns home in Eds bugey  went to Leesburg  I got very cold  brough home 3 old buckets  good one which Theadore gave me and two little boxes  talked with Barrick about Sherrod Execution  told R H to write to Railey about  come home awhile after ariving Henry Hill come  sent here by Robert  got supper lodging & breakfast
