September 1 1875 Wednesday

            Fine & dry  John & Ed went to Fierbaughs to trash  took mules  there all day till after night_ I went to (Sam?) McGuires to collect note I held on him for $6.25  receaved on $**^  got dinner & horse fed  went to J Wilson to look for hoggs  could not buy of him yet  come home by G Shilts

 

September 2 1875 Thursday

            Dry & warm  John haul manure all forenoon, after dinner commenced to plow in oat stuble,  Ed haul load wood for Rev McCarty  Nance & bay horse  after haul rails for straw stack  then went help D Shilts trash  I went to Leesville  got 2 removes on Coley  paid 30 to A Baker bot 2 plow points of Joseph & little sack salt paid for $1.05 cts got 1 point of J Moor paid for to Theadore 40 cts got 10 cts worth tar & come home

 

September 3 1875 Friday

            Fine morning, up earley  John & Ed went to plow & at it all day_  I went to Carlton, Thare all day till after 6 oclock in evening, Then started for home  got storm  stay at John Brooks south of Pitsburgh  Expences in Carlton 15 cts having my own horse feed  quite a hard shower rain between 7 & 8 oclock

 

September 4 1875 Saturday

            I left John Brooks at 5 oclock this morning  home again 7 for for breakfast  after went to Leesburgh dined with Joseph_ informed Bob got home yesterday at noon  went to Carlton this morning with Doctor Stephenson_ I paid Theopalis Smith $4.00 for grafting  come home bringing Carry Frank & Dory_ John & Ed plow all day finished field

 

September 5 1875 Sunday

            At home all day about the house  RH & family up here J Fierbaugh here with John

 

September 6 1875 Monday

            Fine dry weather.  John & Ed plowing over in bottom oat stuble all day  I up earley  went to Cadiz on train  fare round trip $1.10  cakes & (cheese J***tion?) 10 cts  RHS To Cash to part pay his fare 25  out in all $1.45  walked from Cadiz to Junction  took 3 hours  got home 1/2 after 5 oclock, Robert stoping off to get his supper  Edw took him home with Nance to bugey and to bring word how Joseph is not back till 9 oclock

 

September 7 1875 Tuesday

            Fine cool morning  I up earley  went to Carlton trial  continueaced and expences 20 cts for lunch at Colemans  Paid JL Rue $10.00 as recpt  paid Wm Crim $20.00 entered on recept sheet  home again night  Rev Patterson & Carter here from Deersville tending temperance lecture delivered by Grimes of Cadiz_ John & Edward plowing over Creek all day haul load wood to house as they come to dinner

 

September 8 1875 Wednesday

            Rev Carter here all night & Pattersons mule  John helping J.M. Holmes tras all day  Ed plowed some over Creek  Mary & I went to Leesburgh to see Joseph  I come home leaving her there  I bot 25 cts worth of spirits camphor of J. Baldwin out of my own money for Eds wife  left it with him and come home, she telling me she felt unwell to send Mrs Sally Crawford down which I done  I also sent Ed home when he come in from the plow_ Come got Nance to go after Doc Lesle Lysle

 

September 9 1875 Thursday

            Very warm & sultry  I at home all day forenoon I took lambs & Ewes out of bottom & helped John Ray of lower end of bottom to plow where he was all day  Ed spent forenoon providing for his wife  after being confirmed of daughter baby_ plowed some in after noon with John  I felt sleepy & took nap till near sup time_ I intended to go to Leesburgh but gave it up after supper for Mary

 

September 10 1875 Friday

            A wet morning_ John & Ed went to work on road but broke off by rain & come home  then went to fixing about the barn & granary_ I hitched up Nance & Coley went to Leesburg after Mary  took Fred along  come home trough Bowerston to tell Sarah how Joseph was_ John finished plowing in bottom  Ed went to Fierbaughs after their harrow,  Theadore & Dilley here looking for his cow_ I greesed the horses legg

 

September 11 1875 Saturday

            John went to harrow in near oat stuble and harrowed till 3 oclock  Then took Nance & Eds bugy &: he & Ellon went to Franklin  not back till after 11 oclock in the night_  Ed & I sorted sheep seperating lambs from Ewes  30 lambs 32 Ewes 10 taken to Eds orchard 13 taken over to wheat stuble 7 weathers put with lambs makeing in all with 3 sheep & Buck 42 head  old ones and counting lambs would be 72_ After dinner I took Theadors Cow home not back till near 5 oclock  Daughter Sarah and Children here when I come home

 

September 12 1875 Sunday

            A wettish day  I at home all day forenoon  Salt sheep  gres my shoes & boots  after dinner I went to meeting & made some entries on diary_ As yet heard no word from Joseph to day at 5 oclock PM

 

September 13 1875 Monday

            Cleared up & fine day  John Harrowing all day on ridge & in Bottom  Ed hauld 21 bus Cole before dinner from Fouts bank  after dinner went to I. Heastons for 8 bus seed wheat & to Fierbaugh for grain drill and commenced to sow whee  I went to see about the trashers their and saw Bill at night at Shultz  I was over at Fierbaugh seeing Mike about going to Butterfields & E. Smith lin seed & Dill

 

September 14 1875 Tuesday

            Fine day  Edward finish sowing wheat on ridge oat stuble and went to drill some for I heaston in evening  John first went to Fierbaugh and sewed 1 bus Linseed then harrowed in bottom till dinner_  After took of old sheep pelt(?)  dug potatoes cut stove wood & butchered sheep till night_  Took J. Masters 26 1/2 lb Mutton fore & hind quarters at 10 cts pr lb $265_ I went up to Elias Smiths  with Mike to look at cow forenoon  after I went to Leesburgh  big wagon for 2 store boxes and on dollar worth coffe & sugar paid for J.Henderson along  come home and went to get hands to trash

 

September 15 1875 Wednesday

            Fine day  Bell Warner & little Bowers trashed for us, took all day_  The help M.&D. Fierbaugh- I.& H. Heaston, Joseph Fierbaugh, J Striker_ Del Holmes John Henderson, John Corey, Dav Shilts 1/2 day_  In all 15 hands besides our selves 3_ The amount trashed:

Gave the trashers four meals and four horse feeds and two nights pasture for six horses and all went off smoothe & nice_  Theadore went home and was to get 6 chickens of Ed if he got them I laid out 10 cts for Nails to day_ I paid Arnan Bell next day at John M. Holmes for trashing $16.00  Bills 6 horses here in pasture all night again this being the second nights keep

 

September 16 1875 Thursday

            Wet morning  fixing up things after trashing & making entries on Diary  John choring  makeing boot jack etc forenoon_  I took grist wheat to mill 5 bus old wheat  John & I gathered up some sheep trofts  mended them  distributed them & fed sheep and John went over in bottom for load wood_ I paid Bill $16.00 this forenoon for trashing_ and when they left this mrorning they took 1 Bagg oats to Strikes Weighing 113lbs

 

September 17 1875 Friday

            (Crossed out:  Edward started to Zatts for load cole for him self  I game him $1.00 to buy)  John McCourt helping Strikes trash all day  I went to Widow J. Shilts to buy her hoggs  not ready to sell_  After dinner I went to Leesville bought cow for $26.00 of Jim Cotter  paid  not back till dark  John milked her first

Edward :& mules helping Mike trash  Seed wheat all forenoon  after took hors(?) harrow & went to I Heastons for Drill

 

September 18 1875 Saturday

            John McCourt to Cash $10.00  took slick mule after breakfast & started for home_  Edward took Nance & Jack mule to go to Zatts for 20 bus Cole  I gave him cash $1.00  I went to Leesville to see Joseph  dined at Theadores, J. English & daughter there on way to old womans  I home before night

 

September 19 1875 Sunday

            Cool Cloudey day  I at home  salt cattle & lambs  Alf Shilts come by  I went down to meeting  after sermon come up fixed fires  make some entries on Diary  Rev Hogg & Stevenson of Scio here for dinner  Mike & family_ F.T. Simionton & family come  all went away in eve  Simonton left first- Rev Hogg come back after night service & stayed all night

 

September 20 1875 Monday

            John McCourt went to harrow over in bottom  Edward to blade cain  Mike come & got Nance & bay horse  I choring & make some entries in Diary  After noon when John got done harrow I cauld him to come trash some rye to sow  at it till night onley trashed some 2 bushels_  I went over to the UN Brethern Church after night to her Doc Updegraff (Undergrass?) make a political speach which I cauled a good one

 

September 21 1875 Tuesday

            John fin trashing  I help clean up  he then went to harrow in rye all day  Ed drilling in wheat & Lin seed  I grubing up thorn bushes along the ditch and reding up some wood along upper end of bottom

 

September 22 1875 Wednesday

            John & Ed went at his cain blade & cutting up & carring in stuble all day_  I went to the Widow Carrs with her relations below Leesvill  got $2.00 for  viseted Joseph & got my dinner with Theadores wife & come home_  Mike had mules all day seeding_  Robert come and was here all night

 

September 23 1875 Thursday

            We are having sharp froste for some 3 or four mornings in sucession  Robert left for Rumley_ John & Ed took Mules & plow to work on roads  Eds Tax & mine $8.03  Mine $6.87  at it all day and did not get quite done_  I went up to old John Heaston & Fouts forenoon  had P Bartow here for dinner  After noon Mrs J.M. Holmes & daughter  McKeevers & daughter Sarah Fierbaugh  I done verry little

 

September 24 1875 Friday

            Another sharp frost_  John & Ed went to fin work on roads, then to corn field_+ I make some entries on the Diary before 10 oclock_  Boys cutting corn till quitting time  I choring around not doing much  put apron on buck and of no account  I think I greased the horse’s legg and dug a few potatoes to take to Fierbaughs

 

September 25 1875 Saturday

            John & Ed went to cut corn  At it all day_  Mary & I went to Leesburgh  I took some potatoes to Robert & Joseph some  over three & a half bushels and not back till night  I was trying to bargan  Fine & warm indicating rain and did rain a light shower after night

 

September 26 1875 Sunday

            A fine day  I at home  forenoon I was salting sheep and looking trough the cornfield  After noon I went to meeting to hear Rev Stevenson preach  John & Ellon went up to Dave Fierbbaugh to spend the evening  Ed went to Leesburgh

 

September 27 1875 Monday

            Fine & dry  John & Ed cutting up corn all day_  I went to see John Snary before dinner,  After I hauled in two loads punkins and  bought apair of specks & nose spring glasses of a traveling optition the name of Nuton for $2.00  rather a foolish purchase_

Phillip Smebley put his cow in pasture this morning or yesterday evening at the rate of two days pr monht

 

September 28 1875 Tuesday

            Fine & dry  John & Ed cutting up corn all day  J. Snary here while we were eating breakfast_  I hauled in one load pumkins before dinner  Phillip Smitley here to get his dinner_  I put in the afternoon mending cheeks & collar  Ellon away all day helping Sarah Fierbaugh & Mary down at Eds

 

September 29 1875 Wednesday

            Still dry weather  John & Edward cut corn all day._  I took load pumkins to Joseph & Rachel  away all day  bot pen knife & pad lock for 85 cts cash & 5 cts worth tobacco paid all to J.J.  Theadore & family went to New Phila taking Jim Prices wife  dont expect to be back till friday evening  Edward had been rideing Coley some where for Medicine for his wife

 

September 30 1875 Thursday

            John & Ed went over the creek to dig potatoes  dug 1 wagon load before dinner  John & I went out after dinner  tied up fodder corn & dug 10 bus potatoes again night_  Ed took home Sarah Fierbaugh_  John Henderson Dr To 10 lb Flower  which I took to him before dinner worth 40 cts Extra flour

            Began to rain some after dinner and rained all night
